Guardian glass recently introduced the new Bird1st™ UV glass, marking a significant upgrade to its extensive line of bird-friendly glass products. This innovative solution not only meets the latest building code requirements but also effectively protects ecological landscapes while reducing the installation costs of insulated glass units. It stands as the brand's most visually inconspicuous bird-friendly product, with a threat factor of ≤25, fully compliant with NYC Local Law #15 and other municipal regulations in the U.S.
This product adopts "people-oriented" as its core design philosophy, balancing bird protection with human visual comfort and architectural facade aesthetics. The outer glass surface features a patented patterned UV-reflective coating, which has been proven through research to be the most bird-friendly material at this location, reflecting up to 75% of the UV spectrum light. To further enhance UV visual contrast, the product's second surface incorporates a laminated interlayer that absorbs over 99% of UV light outside the patterned areas. Since UV light lies outside the visible spectrum of the human eye, these core designs remain completely invisible to indoor occupants, ensuring both clear and unobstructed views while allowing architects to create uniformly cohesive glass facades.
In terms of practicality, Bird1st™ UV glass offers the advantage of being non-directional, with three size options: split (130×102 inches), giant (130×204 inches), and extra-large (130×240 inches). Compared to the first-generation product, the larger specifications and non-directional pattern design optimize manufacturing cutting yield, significantly reducing the overall cost of the final glass product.
In terms of performance and design versatility, this product has been certified by the American Bird Conservancy (ABC) and is compatible with multiple Guardian SunGuard™ low-emissivity coatings, including popular models such as SNX 70+ and SNX 60+. It is suitable for both Guardian UltraClear™ low-iron glass and Guardian Clear standard glass substrates, offering architects and facade designers a wide range of options for energy performance, light transmission, and aesthetic coordination. Additionally, the laminated structure provides enhanced safety performance and optimized sound insulation benefits, delivering a multifunctional glass solution. It is worth mentioning that the new Bird1st™ UV glass has also passed compatibility tests with multiple European SunGuard coatings, supporting cross-border project teams. It meets the regulatory requirements of North America while adapting to project needs in other regions based on local standards.
